According to a new YouGov survey commissioned by Great Earth, 70% of respondents feel their well-being is influenced by their daily diet and food supplements. While over half know which nutrients are needed to care for their skin, hair, and nails, they admit to neglecting their intake or lacking the motivation to do so.
A recent YouGov survey reveals that almost half of women consider vitamins and minerals part of their beauty routine and are happy to spend money on them. However, attitudes towards food and nutritional supplements differ across age groups. Younger to middle-aged women (18–39) are more likely to spend money on external beauty routines, such as makeup and skincare, than older women (60–65), who are more inclined to invest in vitamins and minerals, viewing them as an integral part of their beauty regimen.
– If we take care of the inside, it will be reflected on the outside. Ultimately, it doesn't matter how many creams we apply if we don't provide the right nutrients internally and give our bodies the means to absorb them. We achieve this by eating a varied diet, staying hydrated, sleeping well, and managing stress. Adding extra supplements of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other substances provides a better foundation for both our inner health and outer appearance, says Jorunn Wallton-Haaland, CEO of Great Earth.
Many women feel their hair and skin quality has negatively affected their self-esteem
The survey also shows that half of Swedish women aged 50–59 feel their skin and hair quality has negatively impacted their self-esteem over the years. The figure is different among younger women, where 37 percent of those aged 18–39 do not identify with this statement at all.
Knowledge gaps regarding nutrients for skin, hair, and nails
When it comes to which nutrients skin, hair, and nails need, the survey highlights existing knowledge gaps. Nearly one in six women report not knowing which nutrients are actually required, with the largest knowledge gap found among women aged 18–39 (40 percent).
