How We Developed Awake

What was the process behind creating Awake, our product for more energy and focus? Awake is the ninth needs-based product we've developed and the first in the Energy category of our range. We sat down with our product expert, Rebecca, to delve into how Awake went from an idea to a product on the shelf.

Since 1987, Great Earth has been developing and manufacturing food supplements for the Swedish market. This means our credibility is our highest priority, and the expectations from our loyal customers are extremely high. It's therefore essential that our products deliver on their promises. They must be safe, effective, of the highest quality, contain only well-tested ingredients, and never compromise on performance. Based on surveys and customer demand, we realised there was a significant need for a product that contributes to long-lasting and stable energy. The market currently offers several products for a quick energy boost, where the primary source of energy is caffeine. We wanted to develop a different solution aimed at achieving sustained, even energy levels.

The Process Behind Awake

'When we select ingredients for a product, there are many parameters to consider,' explains Rebecca, Product Expert and Quality Manager at Great Earth. She says the most important things are that the ingredients are safe, that there is scientific evidence for their effects, and that they have a long history of proven use. In other words, the contents of the product Awake are nothing new under the sun; it contains well-established adaptogens that have been used for centuries. The specific adaptogens in Awake also have a long history of use for promoting energy and focus.

Many Steps to a Finished Product

Creating a new product isn't a simple task, Rebecca points out. It requires extensive research and studies on the ingredients the product will contain. Once the ingredients are selected, a comprehensive process begins, which includes reviewing regulations, ensuring the ingredients are approved for use in food supplements, and determining the correct dosage.

'We also conduct a full risk assessment and hazard analysis of the product to confirm it is safe and of high quality, and of course, that it actually does what it's supposed to do.'

Why Adaptogens?

Awake contains a combination of the adaptogens ginseng, rhodiola rosea, and Siberian ginseng, along with vitamins B5 and B12. Adaptogens were a key part of Awake, because we wanted to create a product that provides long-lasting, stable energy, reduces tiredness, and improves focus. Unlike caffeine, which works by affecting adrenaline in the body, adaptogens continuously supply the body with energy without being addictive. The effect of adaptogens also doesn't diminish over time, as it can with caffeine products. B vitamins are already well-known for contributing to normal energy-yielding metabolism. Vitamin B5, also known as Pantothenic Acid, is a popular energy product in its own right. But instead of you having to buy several different products to achieve more energy, we chose to create an all-in-one solution. For a simple routine and a more energised day!
