Evening Primrose Oil
Evening primrose oil is derived from the evening primrose flower and contains the fatty acid GLA (gamma-linolenic acid), which contributes to hormonal balance. GLA is needed for the body's production of hormone-like substances called prostaglandins. Low levels of prostaglandins are thought to be linked to hormonal issues, such as PMS symptoms. Evening primrose oil also contributes to normal hormonal balance and ensures an intake of polyunsaturated fatty acids that support a healthy, balanced state during the menstrual cycle. In other words, evening primrose oil was an essential ingredient for us to include in PMS Balance!
Dong Quai
Dong Quai is an herb related to parsley, carrot, and coriander, commonly found in China, Japan, and Korea. The herb is also known as Chinese Angelica and has been used for over 2,000 years in traditional Chinese medicine. Because most of its benefits relate to female health, it is often called the 'female ginseng'. Traditionally, Dong Quai has been used to alleviate discomfort caused by hormonal imbalances, such as those experienced during PMS and menopause.
Sage
You probably know sage as an herb often used in cooking, particularly in meat dishes. But sage is also a popular ingredient in products for PMS and menopause. This is because sage contains small amounts of substances that resemble oestrogen and contributes to well-being during menstruation. You can also find sage in our Meno Balance product!
Vitamin B6
Vitamin B6 is part of the B-vitamin family and contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity, as well as contributing to normal psychological function. For this reason, B6 is a recommended supplement for supporting hormonal balance and can be taken either as a standalone B6 supplement or in a combination product like PMS Balance or Meno Balance.
Chromium
Chromium is an important mineral that contributes to normal macronutrient metabolism. It helps, among other things, to metabolise sugar and convert it into energy in the cells, and it also contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels. For these reasons, we chose to add Chromium to our PMS Balance to help reduce sugar cravings associated with PMS.
