The edible beauty routine – boosting you from the inside out

Many people know that vitamins and minerals are an important part of a beauty routine, but find it hard to get started. This is according to a recent YouGov survey commissioned by Great Earth. That's why we've developed 'The Edible Five-Step Routine' – with beauty supplements that help to support skin, hair, and nails.
– Boosting your body from within should be as simple as choosing a day cream or a serum. The point is that it shouldn't be complicated. By reading up on the ingredients, understanding what your body needs, and incorporating the right nutrients into your daily life, you can easily create an edible beauty routine, says Rebecca Hedström, Product Specialist at Great Earth.
What nutrients do we need?
Antioxidants protect cells from damage. They also help to counteract premature ageing. Blueberries, prunes, goji berries, and dark chocolate are some sources that contain a high proportion of antioxidants.
Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of the skin. Collagen is found naturally in the body, supporting the skin's structure and helping to keep it supple and smooth. You can't get this type of collagen from a wrinkle cream, so it's important to eat foods rich in Vitamin C, such as kiwi, red peppers, citrus fruits, and broccoli.

Zinc is an essential mineral for your skin. It contributes to the maintenance of normal skin. A lack of zinc can lead to various skin issues. You can find zinc in foods such as herring, mussels, lamb, eggs, beef, wheat germ, whole grain products, wheat bran, nuts, rice, peas, carrots, beetroot, and sunflower and pumpkin seeds.
Omega-3 contains essential fatty acids that are important for healthy skin. These fatty acids are needed to help maintain the skin's moisture, suppleness, and softness. Salmon, walnuts, flaxseeds, mussel oil, and hemp oil are all excellent sources of essential fatty acids.
Fibre is essential for optimal gut function, helping with nutrient absorption and the elimination of waste products. Whole grains and fibre are therefore vital for maintaining clear, soft skin. Good examples of fibre-rich foods include kiwi, apples with the skin on, dried fruit, whole-grain rye sourdough bread, crispbread, beans, and flaxseeds.
